Forensics of exploitation

October 23, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

A lecture by Vladan Joler taking place on Tuesday, 23 October at 18h in “Prostor” (Beogradska 11, Petrovaradin – Novi Sad) will guide you through the birth, life and death of one connected device, based on a centralised system of artificial intelligence – Amazon Echo.

Researchers Vladan Joler and Kate Crawford (NYU) have named their research “Anatomy of an AI system”, but the subtitle “The Amazon Echo as an anatomical map of human labor, data and planetary resources” explains the extent of their research. This specific investigative-detective-art form encompasses a wide range of different methodologies, intertwining methods of cyberforensics, analysis and visualisations of large data sets, cartography, media theory and philosophy.

Vladan Joler is the founder of SHARE Foundation and a professor at the Department of New Media at the Academy of Arts in Novi Sad. Joler runs SHARE Lab, an investigative data investigation laboratory focused on research of different social and technical aspects of invisible infrastructures, algorithmic transparency, labour exploitation and many other phenomena created by development and use of modern technologies.
